City Elections: November 7, 2017

General Information

City Elections will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

Candidate Information:
Items of Interest:
  • Pre-Registration ends Friday, October 27, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
  • In-person absentee voting will begin on Thursday, September 28th and runs through Monday, November 6th until 5:00 p.m.
  • Poll locations will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7th.
  • Voters will need to use their City Election Poll Location.
  • An ongoing candidate will be available online once the candidate filing period begins on Monday, August 28th.
  • Sample ballots will be available on or before Thursday, September 28th.

To find your City Election poll location by entering your Linn County residential address at: www.linncountyelections.org/lookup.

Poll locations will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7th.

Candidate List


An ongoing candidate will be available online once the candidate filing period begins on Monday, August 28th. The city candidate filing period runs from August 28th through September 21st.

Sample Ballots

  • Sample ballots will be available before or on Thursday, September 28th after ballots are approved by the appropriate city.

Satellite Information

A satellite station may be requested by filing a petition with the Election Services Department. The petition must contain signatures of at least 100 eligible electors living in the jurisdiction. The petition must be filed with the county auditor conducting the election by the filing deadlines listed in ┬ž53.11, which varies by election type.


The deadline to submit petitions for satellite station is Monday, October 9th by 5:00 p.m..

Absentee Voting Information

The last day the Election Department may send out a ballot is Friday, November 3, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

Ballots mailed back to our office must be postmarked by November 6, 2017 in order to have the ballot counted. Voters may request a postmark at the Post Office.

Early voting will begin in our office on Thursday, September 28, 2017 and will run through Monday, November 6, 2017.  

Our office is located at 935 2nd Street SW in Cedar Rapids.


Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
