Linn County Public Health Implements New “Air Quality Alert” System

Linn County Public Health would like to announce the availability of a new notification system for air quality alerts. Linn County Residents may sign up to receive an “Air Quality Alert” notification via e-mail or text message when the air quality in Linn County has reached, or has the potential to reach, unhealthy levels for sensitive individuals. Subscribers will receive updates to the alerts. Linn County posts the current Air Quality Index (AQI) level at: www.linncleanair.org.

“The AQI indicates how clean or polluted your air is, and what associated health effects you might experience,” said Pramod Dwivedi, DrPH (c), Health Director of Linn County Public Health. “Individuals with certain sensitivities, such as people with heart or lung disease, older adults, children and teenagers, may be of greater risk when air pollution is elevated.”

Individuals may sign up for Air Quality Alerts by visiting http://www.linncounty.org/list.aspx, creating an account by entering a valid email address and click “sign in” to update profile information. Once the profile information has been entered, scroll down to Alert Center “Air Quality Alerts” and click on the envelope graphic to receive an email alert or the phone graphic to receive a text alert.
