Inspecting food storage area.

  • Regulates the design, construction, and installation of on-site wastewater treatment and disposal systems, and non-public water wells.
  • Inspects on-site septic systems for compliance with public health standards.
  • Performs inspections and enforcement for food service establishments including temporary and mobile foods.
  • Conducts hotel and motel inspections.
  • Conducts vending machine inspections.
  • Monitors swimming pool and spa disinfecting capabilities to reduce the potential for pool-acquired infections.
  • Conducts tanning parlor and tattoo establishment inspections.
  • Enforces nuisance codes.
  • Resolves nuisance complaints filed by the general public.
  • Belongs to the Iowa AIR Coalition, which educates the public about radon gas.
  • Coordinates with County Zoning and Building in platting and enforces minimum housing inspections.
  • Assists County and City through Linn Emergency Planning Committee and hazardous materials teams.
