State Unveils ‘Informed Dining’ Web Site

DES MOINES, IOWA – The Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) today unveiled its ‘Informed Dining’ web site that will allow Iowans to see inspection reports from restaurants and grocery stores across the state. “The ‘Informed Dining’ web site is the most comprehensive restaurant inspection site in the Midwest, if not the country,” DIA Director Steve Young said. “No states surrounding Iowa have any type of web-based reporting system. This is truly a first-of-its-kind web site in the Midwest.”

The restaurant inspections web site can be accessed through DIA’s home page at www.state.ia.us/government/dia/ and then by clicking on the ‘Informed Dining’ navigation button. ‘Informed Dining’ contains reports on nearly all of the state’s 20,373 food establishments, including restaurants, grocery stores, and convenience stores. Inspections conducted at Iowa-licensed hotels and motels, too, are available through the web site. Once users have accessed the ‘Informed Dining’ web site, they can see copies of the reports from inspections conducted by DIA or one of its contracting health departments.
