INFORMATION FOR LIFTS RIDERS
The Linn County LIFTS provides accessible door-to-door public transportation services for senior citizens, people with disabilities, and the general public throughout non-metropolitan areas. LIFTS also provides ADA (American with Disabilities Act) “complimentary, paratransit services” under contract from Cedar Rapids Transit for the metropolitan area of Cedar Rapids, Marion, and Hiawatha.
WHAT IS AN “ADA RIDER”?
Cities that have regular, “fixed-route” buses are required by the ADA to provide complimentary, door-to-door paratransit within ¾ of a mile of all bus routes to people with disabilities who are ADA eligible. ADA Riders (“disabled riders”) are those people who cannot ride the fixed-route bus due to their disability. An ADA rider can be of any age. The ADA rider status may change with their condition, the weather, or other factors. LIFTS requires “self-identification” of ADA status at this time. When a route is full, ADA riders take priority in scheduling.
WHEN CAN I GET A RIDE FROM LIFTS?
You can get a ride from LIFTS between 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM Mondays through Fridays, and from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturdays.
HOW DO I RESERVE A RIDE?
There are two ways to schedule a ride:
1. Call and make a reservation for each and every ride.
2. Make a “standing reservation” to the same location on the same day of the week and the same time of the day. There are certain restrictions on standing reservations. If there are too many standing reservations at any one time, you may be asked to schedule each ride separately.
Reservations are taken by phone at 319-892-5170 Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM. The best time to call for a ride is 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM Monday thru Friday.
Rides can be scheduled up to seven days in advance. ADA riders can reserve “next-day rides” by calling to schedule the ride on the day before your trip. NOTE: To get the best service, if you know the date and time of your trip, you should call as soon as you can within the 7 day window.
How do I cancel a ride?
To cancel a scheduled ride, call LIFTS at 319-892-5170 (extension 2 for dispatch). If you need to cancel, please call as soon as possible to allow other riders to take that space. NOTE: If you miss your ride and have not called in, you may be charged for the ride. If you repeatedly are a “NO-CALL, NO SHOW,” your riding privileges may be suspended.
CAN LIFTS NEGOTIATE THE PICK UP TIME?
For ADA Riders, LIFTS can negotiate within one hour before or after your requested time (“the two-hour window”).
WHAT ARE SOME OTHER THINGS I SHOULD KNOW?
Your pickup time is estimated. You should be ready & waiting 15 minutes before your pickup time, and wait for your ride until 15 minutes after the scheduled pickup time (“the half-hour window”). Pickup times vary due to traffic, road conditions, and the loading & unloading of passengers before you.
The driver cannot shovel snow. The driver cannot carry your packages. They can help you to the door.
HOW DO I COMPLAIN WHEN THERE ARE PROBLEMS?
Linn County LIFTS wants to provide the best transportation services possible and you are invited to let them know how they are doing. Your feedback about all aspects of LIFTS’ operations is appreciated. LIFTS management will review, investigate, and respond to each comment/complaint.
