Horseshoe Falls Lodge opening in 1995, becoming the second enclosed lodge facility in Pinicon Ridge Park - joining the 1966 Woodpecker Lodge on Woodpecker Hill. It was built by Conservation Department staff, and is located in the former Horseshoe Falls Campground that was closed in the early 1990s. It is nestled in the center of a very busy park with numerous special features within walking distance: playground (.2 miles), watercraft concession (.5 miles), 72' landmark observation tower (.25 miles), hiking trails (.2 miles), lighted sledding hill (.5 miles) and much more!
The name of the lodge comes from the nearby small waterfall along the Woodpecker Trail. A small limestone outcropping with a vertical drop of 4 feet or so received it's name from the local inhabitants in the mid-1900s as they would give tours of the scenic wooded hills and valleys along the Wapsipinicon River, passing by this diminutive waterfall on their travels.
The sheltered (indoor) capacity of this lodge is considered to be 100-150, with a banquet-style seating capacity of 75. The 384 sq. foot covered deck also provides additonal "sheltered" seating in the warmer months. Utilizing adjacent patio(s), the fair-weather capacity of this lodge could be considered to be approximately 500+ people. (parking issues would exist)
