QUESTION
How do I apply for homestead credit?

ANSWER
You must complete a Homestead Application with the Assessor’s Office. If you live in Linn County outside of Cedar Rapids you apply for homestead credit  through the Linn County Assessor’s Office, 930 1st Street SW, in Cedar Rapids. If you live in Cedar Rapids you apply for homestead credit through the Cedar Rapids City Assessor’s Office, 1211 6th Street SW, Cedar Rapids.

You may also apply for a homestead tax credit exemption via mail.  Simply download and print the Homestead Application, then complete and mail or deliver the application to the appropriate assessor's office.

Those qualifying for a Disabled Veteran Homestead must apply annually by July 1st of the year for which the credit is claimed.

NOTE: Homestead credit requires an original signature, therefore, application may NOT be made by e-mail or fax.
