Linn County Historic Preservation Grant Applications Now Available
(CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – February 23, 2010) — Applications for the annual Historic Preservation Grant Program from the Linn County Historic Preservation Commission are now available on the Linn County website at www.linncounty.org. This year, $28,790 is available. Grant funds must be used to preserve historic structures or artifacts; maintain a historical library or collection; conduct historical studies or research; issue publications; provide public lectures of historical interest; or otherwise disseminate knowledge of the history of the area to the general public.
To be eligible for a grant, applicants must be a non-profit organization in Linn County. Due to legal restrictions, organizations under ecclesiastical or sectarian management are not eligible. Completed applications are due Friday, April 2, 2010 by 5:00 p.m. This is a competitive grant program.
The Linn County Historic Preservation Commission will host an informational workshop about the grant program on Saturday, March 6, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. There is no cost for the workshop, but those attending should call (319) 892-5117 or email jan.every@linncounty.org to reserve a spot. The workshop will be held at the Karl & Mary Kohler History Center, 615 1st Ave. SE in Cedar Rapids.
