Linn County Public Health was contacted by Harding Middle School when students and staff fell ill during the lunch hour on Monday, January 30th. School officials and authorities have taken the necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of all students, staff, and faculty. At this point there is no evidence of a public health threat. The cause of the illness is still under investigation. The City is working with Linn County and the Cedar Rapids Community School District to connect 124 sites, including 42 school district locations, 67 City facilities and 15 County facilities, plus 242 traffic signal intersections in the metro area through this network. The City is leading the design and construction of this project. The Joint Communications Network will also benefit other non-profit organizations including multiple E911 dispatch and public safety centers, the Linn County Emergency Management Agency, Kirkwood Community College, the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Iowa Communications Network, the statewide educational network. This fiber optic high-speed redundant network will improve the way local government agencies provide services to thousands of residents.
