Absentee Ballot Issues

For voters falling under these issues:

My absentee ballot got lost in the mail or I never received my ballot.

My spouse voted my ballot or My spouse signed my return envelope.

I spoiled or made a mistake on my ballot.

I requested a ballot but I moved. Will the ballot get to my new address?

I am a snowbird and spend my winters in a warmer climate. Will my ballot be forwarded to me?

I am a college student and live away from home. Will my ballot be forwarded to me?




My absentee ballot got lost in the mail or I never received my ballot.

The first day our office can mail ballots is Monday, October 5, 2020 for the November 3, 2020 Presidential General Election.

If you did not receive your absentee ballot, please call our office at 319-892-5300 EXT 1. Our office can reissue you a new ballot. Our office needs to speak to the voter in manners like this. By calling our office, staff can resolve your problem easier.

Please do not submit a another absentee request form. Legally, our office can only issue one ballot to one voter. If we receive an additional form, our office can not issue you an additional ballot.

If you lost a ballot, a lost ballot form will need to be completed. The form is easy and takes a minute to complete. This lost ballot form will be mailed our with your replacement ballot.

Do not submit a another absentee request form. Legally, our office can only issue one ballot to one voter. If we receive an additional form, our office can not issue you an additional ballot.




I spoiled or made a mistake on my ballot.

If you make a mistake, place all voting materials in the return envelope. Write “SPOILED BALLOT” clearly and in large print on the return envelope. 

Mail or deliver the envelope to our office and request a replacement ballot.

Election mail cannot be forwarded. If you have moved, the ballot will not be sent to you even if you have placed a forward request in at the United States Post Office.
