Historic Preservation Grant Program

The Linn County Historic Preservation Commission oversees the Historic Preservation Grant Program. The grant application cycle is now open. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on April 1, 2019.

Historic Preservation Grant Program Application (PDF)

Please read the application carefully because it includes information on eligibility and the types of projects that are eligible for funding. Only non-profit organizations located in Linn County, Iowa, are eligible to apply. Individuals are not eligible. Due to legal restrictions, Iowa Code Section 331.901(5), organizations under ecclesiastical or sectarian management are not eligible for Linn County grant funds.

Previously funded projects must be complete and reporting requirements must be met in order to be eligible for funding.

Projects must be designed for the purpose of collecting and preserving historical materials, artifacts, places, or structures, including National Register of Historic Places nominations; maintaining a historical library or collection; conducting historical studies or research; issuing educational publications (not membership newsletters); providing public lectures of historical interest; attending historic preservation conferences; or otherwise disseminating a knowledge of the history of the area to the general public.

Grant Briefing

A grant briefing will be held on March 2, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Falcon Civic Center in Central City for organizations interested in applying for the Historic Preservation Grant. Attendance provides organizations with the opportunity to discuss projects with the Commissioners prior to finalizing the application and, while not required, it is recommended.

Property Condition Worksheet

Applicants must complete a Property Condition Worksheet if they are requesting funding for structural projects (including but not limited to roofs, tuckpointing, painting, windows, flooring, wallpaper, doors, etc.).
