Linn County Seeks Historic Preservation Commission Members

Linn County Seeks Historic Preservation Commission Member

The Linn County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications to fill two voluntary appointments on its Historic Preservation Commission.

The Historic Preservation Commission’s primary function is to help identify, preserve and protect historic structures and/or archaeological sites within the Commission’s jurisdiction. The jurisdiction includes unincorporated Linn County and cities within Linn County with the exceptions of Cedar Rapids, Marion, Mount Vernon, Lisbon and Ely; these cities have their own Historic Preservation Commissions. The Linn County Historic Preservation Commission also reviews grant applications for Linn County’s annual historic preservation grant program and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors for grant funding. The Commission typically meets once a month.

Linn County is seeking a commission member with demonstrated, positive interest in historic preservation. Skill sets should include History, Cultural Geography or Anthropology, Urban or Rural Planning, Architecture, (building) Conservation, Archaeology, Law or Sociology. Preference will be given to Historic Preservation Professionals with an advanced degree (M.A. or Ph.D.) and demonstrated professional work experience in the following fields: history, architectural history, prehistoric or historic archaeology, or licensed/certified architects with training/experience in historic architecture rehabilitation.

Applicants must be residents of Linn County and may submit an online application available on the Linn County website at LinnCounty.org or may pick up an application at the Linn County Public Service Center, 935 Second St. SW in Cedar Rapids from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, contact the Linn County Planning & Development Office at 319-892-5130.
