Monday, March 2, 2020 is the first day for partisan county candidates to file for the primary election. Republican and Democratic candidates in Linn County may file nomination papers at 935 2nd St. SW in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The filing deadline is Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at 5 pm.

In addition, some non-partisan candidates who wish to appear on the November 3, 2020 general election ballot must now file in the spring rather than in the summer. This is a change from previous years. Specifically, candidates for Township Trustees, Township Clerks, and Soil and Water Conservation candidates must file between Monday, March 2 and Friday, March 20 at 5 pm. Non-partisan candidates for Agricultural Extension have until Wednesday, August 26 at 5 pm to file.
Non-partisan candidates (nominated by petition) who wish to run for the Board of Supervisor District 3, Auditor, or Sheriff on the November 3, 2020 General Election ballot must also file by Friday, March 20 at 5 pm.

Absentee voting for the primary begins on Monday, May 4, 2020. Primary election day is Tuesday, June 2, 2020.
