Linn County to Provide Building Inspections in Alburnett Under 28E Agreement

The City of Alburnett and the Linn County Planning and Development Department have entered into a 28E Agreement that allows Linn County to provide a full range of building inspection services to the residents of Alburnett.

Services include:

  • Review of building plans for new construction
  • Issuance of building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits by the County
  • Inspections of work under construction

This new agreement means that applications for building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits will now be made at the office of Linn County Planning and Development, located in Cedar Rapids at 935 2nd Street SW. The County’s building inspectors will review applications and plans for code compliance. Linn County Combination inspectors will perform inspections and issue permits.

Applications can also be submitted online.

Linn County has similar agreements in place with the cities of Bertram, Center Point, Lisbon, and Mt. Vernon.

Benefits

Linn County established 28E Agreements with the cities of Alburnett, Bertram, Center Point, Lisbon, and Mt. Vernon. Linn County now contracts with these cities to provide permits and inspections for construction that they would otherwise be without. These agreements were put in place at a vital time for these cities, as they have begun to flourish with commercial projects and new subdivisions that will bring hundreds of new homes to these areas.

Without proper permits and inspections, these buildings and homes could pose a real danger to citizens in these communities. In addition to providing building safety, Linn County services save time on required electrical inspections that would otherwise be performed by state inspectors who are responsible for large territories. The services can also help lower ISO ratings resulting in lower insurance rates for residents of these cities.
