Linn County officials continue to closely follow the latest developments on the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation to ensure the health and safety of our community and to help ensure the actions we are taking are in line with the latest Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations and guidance. Linn County Public Health (LCPH), a department within Linn County government, is working closely with IDPH, the CDC, as well as local public and private partners to plan for prevention and response to the expanding global outbreak of COVID-19.
Linn County is following the recommendation of Linn County Public Health, and at this time, County offices remain open with normal operating hours; however, the County is canceling non-essential meetings and activities in compliance with the new recommendations from IDPH to limit such gatherings. Meetings for the Linn County Board of Supervisors will continue as scheduled at this time; meeting agendas will include essential items only. In addition, enhanced cleaning measures are in place in all County facilities, which includes repeated cleaning of frequently touched surfaces. This is a fluid situation, and if the County changes its hours of operation, we will notify the public via the media, our website, and social media.
Linn County offers many of its services online and strongly encourages residents to use online services when possible all year long. Property taxes and vehicle registration renewals can be paid online. The fee for the online service is only .30 cents when using the electronic check option. The Linn County Board of Supervisors is formally requesting that Governor Reynolds issue an executive order to delay the deadline for property tax payments from March 31, 2020, to April 30, 2020 to help minimize the number of people who will visit their county Treasurer’s Offices across the state to make their payments in person and to give additional time to educate the public about the online service.

Linn County is also updating to its human resources policies and a temporary relaxation of labor contract provisions to address extended sick leave and paid time off for employees who may be impacted by COVID-19. The County is also educating employees on workplace safety measures including social distancing information and basic hygiene tips.
These efforts are focused on both containing the spread of the virus and mitigating its potential impact to protect the public’s health in Linn County.
