New Public Health Disaster Proclamation Impacts Linn County Food and Beverage Establishments

COVID-19 Update

LINN COUNTY, IA – Linn County is one of six Iowa counties that will begin additional mitigation measures to slow community spread of COVID-19. During a news conference earlier today, Governor Kim Reynolds announced the order in a proclamation that closes bars to the public and requires restaurants to stop serving alcohol after 10:00 p.m.

The proclamation, effective at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2020, and continuing until 11:59 p.m. on September 20, 2020 orders all bars, taverns, wineries, breweries, distilleries, night clubs, and other establishments that sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on their premise to be closed to the general public except for carry-out. Restaurants generating more than 50% of their revenue from food sales may remain open to the public, but must stop selling and serving alcoholic beverages after 10:00 p.m.

The proclamation, in response to a surge of cases particularly among young adults within the affected counties, also requires food establishments to ensure physical distancing between each group or individual dining alone, and strongly encourages all Iowans who are two or older to wear a mask or other face covering when in public settings.
