Renovation is in full swing at the soon-to-be open Linn County Mental Health Access Center, located at 501 13th St. NW in Cedar Rapids. While the space is being renovated, staff are working diligently to prepare for operations within the Center. Much of the costs associated with the Mental Health Access Center have been allocated through Linn County’s fund balance through the East Central Mental Health Region. However, these funds will not cover the full costs of the supplies and tools needed to create the best atmosphere for patients utilizing services.
Over the last few months, Mental Health Access Center staff have partnered with area foundations and organizations to request funds to help fill these gaps in needs. The Mental Health Access Center recently was awarded $10,000 from the local Cargill Care Council. These funds will help furnish durable yet comfortable furniture for patient use in the Day Room.
Day Room access for patients is a proven model for success in many facilities and is the therapeutic heart of the Center by providing a common sitting room for those receiving services. Day Rooms have demonstrated a calming, healthy, yet engaging effect for those receiving therapeutic services.
Linn County would like to thank Cargill for being committed to the lives of those living in the community in which their staff live and work.
Linn County and the Mental Health Access Center team would like to thank Van Meter for their generous donation of $500 for linens in the Access Center. The employee-owners at Van Meter believe it is an honor to give back to organizations that power their personal and professional lives and that contributing to quality of life initiatives where they work and live is vital to their own success! Thank you, Van Meter, for seeing, supporting, and believing in the hope the Mental Health Access Center brings to our community!
