Services During COVID-19

Due to COVID-19, Linn County has closed most County buildings to the public once again to help reduce community spread of the virus and to help ensure continuity of County services. The closure will remain in effect until public health conditions improve and allow for modifications. 

County staff continue to work on-site and remotely to provide County services to the public. Building and Zoning services remain operational and available to the public either online, or via phone, or email.  

We appreciate the public's understanding of the need to conduct business in new ways during this global pandemic.

You can conduct business with our Building Department as follows:

Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment meetings are held remotely. Information for monthly meetings is available on our current case website by clicking or tapping the blue button below. Legal publication, as required by law, is still provided, and surrounding property owners within 500 feet of a case are still notified of the pending case by mail. The public will be provided with a way to access and contribute to these meetings either by phone or through video conferencing.

Divisions & Core Functions

Linn County Planning & Development is responsible for providing fair, consistent and objective administration of zoning and building regulations for the unincorporated areas of Linn County and cities that contract with the department. The Planning & Development Department is also responsible for balancing the needs of the customers and the public through building safety and the wise use of land and environmental resources.
